Poems

I memorized this poem by John Greenleaf Whittier.

We search the world for truth. We cull
The good the true the beautiful.
From graven stone and written scroll.
And all old flower fields of the soul.
And when the seekers of the best
We come back laden from are quest
We find that all the sages said
was in the book our mothers read.

My family and I wrote this poem. We were trying to re-write the same poem using modern language. We think its pretty funny.

Yo, we’re goin out to find the good stuff
We separate it from the bad fluff
In printed junk and from the net
And from old homies we will get
And when the punks go for the best
We come back loaded to our nest
We find that all ya’ll seniors said
Was in the book yo Mommas read.

This is a poem I found in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I like to say it as fast as I can.

Dear friends we surely all agree.
There’s almost nothing worse to see.
Than some repulsive little bum
Always chewing chewing gum.

By Roald Dahl

America is Special

One thing that makes America special to me is the Liberty Bell. It is a huge bell that is older than the United States. It was made in London and came to the State house in Philadelphia. Did you know that the first Liberty Bell cracked the first time they rang it? They ordered a new one and it cracked too. I think it's pretty funny!

Another thing that makes America special to me is the Statue of Liberty. In it's left hand it holds a notebook with the date it was dedicated to America; July 4, 1776. On the notebook it's in Roman numerals which would be July IV, MOCCLXXVI. Did you know that it's index finger is eight feet long! The cool part about it is that it's three feet taller than my. That's pretty big finger! LOL!

Another thing that makes America special to me is the White House. Not only does the President work there but he can go bowling, swimming and to a movie theater IN his house! I wish we had that kind of stuff in our house.

Another thing that's really cool is the Golden Gate Bridge. It's almost two miles long and it took four years to build. It's held up by 80,000 feet of cable. It must have been pretty hard to build it. Guess what? The Golden Gae Bridge isn't really golden or yellow, it's orange!

I think Mount Rushmore is a great part of America. Did you know that President Lincoln's mouth is 18 feet wide and that each president's face is sixty feet tall and twenty feet wide. The four presidents are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Our home school program was named after Thomas Jefferson! They used dynamite and jack hammers to carve away the rock and then they used tiny hammers. So that's why Mount Rushmore took 14 years to build!

I learned about Cliff palace in a book I read. Did you know that it has 217 rooms? It was home to the Anasazi people. They lived in caves up high on cliffs. Cliff Palace is the biggest one they built. That's what the book says anyway.

The Hoover Dam is a dam to keep the Colorado river from flooding. It was named after President Herbert Hoover and made from giant blocks of concrete. They used enough concrete to make a sidewalk around the earth! It's 726 feet high and it has 840 miles of pipes. The river is a lake now called Lake Mead. It's 100 miles long. The cool part about it is that it's so gigantic.

My Mom is happy now because I'm finally done and she doesn't have to type any more and I'm happy because now I get to pass off something in my scout book!

awarding

two night ago I went to pack meating. I got three awards two red beads and a basket ball belt loop.

Smart Habit Saturday

I have made my bed every morning for two whole weeks for SHS. I didn't want to start a new habit last week but I'm going to start one this week. I'm going to start changing my baby's wet diaper at least once a day till she's potty trained. I'm going to do it because it sounds easy and my mother will be so happy that I won't have to pick another habit for a whole year probably.

So once a day i am going to change the baby's diaper whenever my mom asks me to.
Check out my new joes goals in my side bar!

Excitment Fun Joy

I'm playing basketball again this year. YAY!!!! We've had two games so far. My coach said that for every thousand rebound points we would each get $1. Every time the ball bounces after the shot we would get 50 points and if we caught it without it bouncing we would get 100 points. I got $1.25. Oh ya! My Mom doesn't like people rewarding me for having fun but I like money so who cares! It was a good game. We won 28-14. My team played really well and got lots of rebounds. For treats we got lemonade and Teddy Grahams. I like treats so who cares!

After that my Dad and I went and played basketball at the gym which was really fun. I have this new thing where I shoot from certain spots and when I start getting them every time I can start shooting three pointers. Three pointers are cool because they are the highest points you can get in the game. Except for shooting from half court where you get 50 points and then except for shooting from the other team's basket where you get 100 points. Well, at least I think you should!

Smart Habit Saturday

My habit this week was making my bed every day and I did. Every morning my Mom would ask me if I needed to make my bed and I said, "I already did." Then finally she stopped bugging me about it.

The end.

Smart Habit Saturday

My Mom made this challenge up. It’s called Smart Habit Saturday. I saw it on my Mom’s blog and I wanted to do it too. My new habit is making my bed every day. Before I started doing this I had to make my bed every night before I went to sleep because I never made it in the morning. It’s better to make it in the morning so you don’t have to keep yourself wide awake when you’re tired and you want to go to bed.

I’m going to make a sign to put in the bathroom to remind me to make my bed in case I forgot when I got out of bed.

The End.
